Tip #18 for the holiday season: Be Generous

Volunteer your time at the local family shelter or meal delivery program. Donate money to your favorite charity. Bake banana bread for the neighbors. Listen to a friend who’s going through a hard time. Ask someone who is overwhelmed if you can support them. How might you help bring some holiday cheer to someone who isn’t feeling so cheery?

Here’s how the Calm team likes to be generous over the holidays:

Jade: Why not write a list of those people you’ve been meaning to catch up with, and write them a letter or give them a call? It always feels good when someone surprises you that they’ve been thinking of you! This winter, I plan on donating produce to a local food bank. Remember even a small gesture can make a huge difference.

Christi-an: I like writing little check-in texts around this time of year. Something like, “Hey. I know this time of year can be of delight and stress. I wanted to check in to see how it’s going? How are you feeling?” Showing people that you care and you’re thinking about them can go a long way.

This is Calm Holiday Tip  #18 of 31! Check back here tomorrow for another way to create more joy and peace this season or read them all in our holidayJournal!

The Calm Holiday Journal is a mix of practical mindfulness tips and contemplation prompts, and how you use it is up to you.
